TAMIL NADU

Kazhuveli Wetland Birds Sanctuary

  • Tamil Nadu government has declared 5,151.60 hectares of swamp/wetlands in Villupuram district as Kazhuveli Wetland Birds Sanctuary.
  • The declaration was made in exercise of the power conferred in the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.
  • Kazhuveli Bird Sanctuary will be the 16th Bird Sanctuary in Tamil Nadu.

Single-use dialysis policy

  • The Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital in Chennai has introduced single-use dialysis policy.
  • In this, disposable dialyser and AV tubings for each dialysis would be put in place under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme.

5th Indian Ocean Conference

  • The Fifth Indian Ocean Conference held in Abu Dhabi of the United Arab Emirates focuses on the global power axis and the importance of the Indo-Pacific in the international system.
  • The theme of the fifth Indian Ocean Conference – IOC 2021 – is “Indian Ocean: Ecology, Economy, Epidemic”.

Cyber security seminar

  • India hosts a two-day cyber security seminar for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) countries in New Delhi.
  • The seminar saw the participation from representatives of all SCO member states including Russia, China, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Tajikistan.
  • The seminar was held under the auspices of SCO – Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS).
  • Pakistan has confirmed the participation of its delegation.

  • Allyship – word Allyship is Dictionary.com’s word of year for 2021.
  • The terms “DEI” (diversity, equity, and inclusion) and “critical race theory” made their debuts as entries on the site with “allyship” this year.

Gujarat – leading manufacturing hub

  • Gujarat has left behind Maharashtra to become the country’s leading manufacturing hub.
  • This is according to the data from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
  • Gujarat saw its Gross Value Addition (GVA) in manufacturing grow by 15.9 per cent annually between FY12 to FY20.
  • GVA is an economic metric that measures the supply of goods and services in an economy.
