Global Hunger Index

  • It is prepared jointly by an Irish aid agency called ‘Concern Worldwide’ and a German organisation called ‘Welthungerhilfe’.
  • The Index termed the hunger level in India is alarming.
  • In the index, India has been placed in the 101st position out of 116 countries.
  • In 2020, India’s was positioned at 94th.
  • India has improved with respect to indicators like under-5 mortality rate, the prevalence of undernourishment and prevalence of stunting among children.

UN Human Rights Council

  • India got re-elected to the UN Human Rights Council for 2022-24 term with the overwhelming majority in United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
  • This decision was taken in the 76th session of the UN General Assembly.
  • India secured its selection by 184 votes in the 193-member assembly.


Exercise Yudh Abhyas 2021

  • India and the United States are set to start a 15-day mega military exercise in Alaska of the USA.
  • The year 2021 will mark the 17th edition of the exercise “Yudh Abhyas”.
  • This Exercise will be conducted at Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson in Alaska.
  • This exercise is to further deepen bilateral military cooperation between both countries.

Voting through smart phone

  • The State Election Commission of Telangana is about to conduct a dry run of the voting using their smartphones.
  • This trial has got approval from the state government.
  • The trial would be run in Khammam district on October 20th 2021 and would be the country’s first e–voting process using mobile smart mobile phones.


IndusInd Bank

  • IndusInd Bank has been authorised by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for the collection of Direct and Indirect Taxes, on behalf of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) and the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC).
  • With this, its customers will be able to pay their Direct and Indirect taxes through ‘Indusnet’ and ‘Indusmobile’ platforms.

International Day

International Day of Older Persons

  • ‘International Day of Older Persons’ is celebrated every year on October 1.
  • The aim of the day is to spread awareness about the need for health facilities and social care for elderly.
  • On Dec.14 1990, the United Nations General Assembly declared Oct.1 as the International Day of Older Persons.
  • The theme for 2021 is “Digital Equity for All Ages”
